Grandma's Fine China"Then grandma's things arrive without grandma."
When Alma's beloved grandma dies, her family inherits her fine china. For Alma, every plate, cup, and bowl is filled with grandma's laughter, warm hugs, and stories. But does a busy family with a new little brother even have room for, or need, fine china? Grandma's Fine China is about memories, family traditions, and inheriting – and about holding on as well as making room for the new when life changes. The book includes fact pages about inheriting and about the hand-painted Danish porcelain "Blue Fluted Plain" which was created by Royal Copenhagen in 1775.

Royal Copenhagen - in my book and in my life
The porcelain in "Grandma's Fine China" is the hand-painted Danish porcelain Blue Fluted Plain, which was created by Royal Copenhagen in 1775. I myself have many memories of this type of porcelain on the table in my childhood home. I also clearly remember when I was visiting my dad in Denmark and showed my daughter for the first time how to turn the porcelain correctly when setting the table. Today, I have inherited 1/3 of the family's Blue Fluted Plain china (plus bought some extra parts, both new and used) and enjoy using it daily as well as for festive occasions.
Blue Fluted Plain porcelain has great cultural significance in Denmark and internationally. The pattern, which is inspired by Chinese porcelain's special blue floral pattern, represents Danish design, tradition and nostalgia, and is a symbol of Danish design and craft tradition.
Here are some pictures from my childhood and the present with Blue Fluted Plain:
